Purpose
Based on the principles of Open Society, Free Economy, and Limited Government, Samudai Bharati will participate in electoral politics, to bring about a more transparent, accountable and responsive government, to transform India that is Bharat into a Knowledge Society based on the Rule of Law (DharmaRaj).Cornerstone Belief
To uphold our nation's motto of Satyameva Jayate, we believe in an individual's liberty of thought and to civilly express such thought; in an individual's duty (dharma) to protect such liberty by being ever vigilant; in the State's duty (dharma) to protect such individual liberty; and in the State's duty (dharma) to provide equal opportunity of access to means that allow an individual to remain so ever vigilant.Commitment
Samudai Bharati will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, and to the principles of socialism (i.e., equal opportunity to all citizens to participate in all spheres of our society), secularism (i.e., not only will the State be panth nirpeksha, it will also not promote or establish any panth but it must protect an Indian citizen's right of civil expression of any thought) and democracy, and would uphold the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India.Principles of Governance (Ashtniti)
We believe that governments in India should spend substantial majority of their time in finding commonsensical approaches to advance these principles:- Equal and just treatment of all citizens
- Protection of national security interests
- Access to and dissemination of information
- Greater public participation in decentralized governance
- Maintenance of law and order
- Oversight of free and fair trade that protects the environment
- Provision of primary healthcare services and primary education
- Promotion of fundamental research
Holistic Approaches to Address Challenges
We believe that we as a nation, with the catalytic and enabling assistance of our governments, should adopt holistic approaches to address the following primary current challenges:- Corruption Reduction
- Sustainable Economic Expansion
- Clean Energy Sufficiency
- Safe Water Availability
- External and Internal Security
Samudai Bharati Organisation
Samudai Bharati will be a decentralized, bottom-up, participatory, internally democratic, transparent, accountable and responsive organisation, composed of law-abiding adult Indian citizens [please note that citizenship is the requirement not residency, i.e., members could be living outside India] who believe in Samudai Bharati's purpose and beliefs and are willing to abide by its commitments and principles, and who agree to contribute a certain nominal financial amount on a recurring basis to fund the working of Samudai Bharati. [At present, on an optional basis, members are contributing a unit of local currency a day if they are currently residing outside India, and at least 2 rupees a day if they are residing in India. After the launch date (see below), each member will be required to contribute such amount to keep his or her membership current.]Samudai Bharati Current Organisational Structure
Presently Samudai Bharati is organized into the following functional groups:- Research Group: This group is addressing issues related to the formation of the political party, including organisation policies, political party structure, etc. This group is also working on developing holistic approaches to address the current primary challenges identified above.
- Outreach Group: This group is engaged in sustained efforts to spread the Samudai Bharati message to people through personal interaction, as well as through Suniti, our website for discussing governance issues in India (www.suniti.org). At present, Suniti is rather basic in nature. We intend to add more features and functionalities on an on-going basis.
- Administrative Group: This group is looking into the administrative issues related to Samudai Bharati, like finance related issues, and technology issues related to website management, software solution provision, etc.
Timeline
March 22, 2007: Samudai Bharati will be officially launched on India's New Year day. Prior to this date, we would have accomplished the following:- Drafting of the Samudai Bharati constitution based on Samudai Bharati's commitments and principles.
- Establishment of local units (most likely to be mapped to Lok Sabha constituencies) as the basic foundation of the political structure of Samudai Bharati, which units will be largely autonomous in raising and spending funds, electing their leadership, nominating their candidates, and conducting outreach to achieve our goals.
- Registration with the Election Commission of India.
- Deployment of a website which would permit us to effectively network among Samudai Bharati members, interact with potential members and people at large, and raise and spend funds for the organisation.
- During this time, we will undertake intensive outreach to increase our membership, to make people aware of our campaign, and to raise funds to fund the working of Samudai Bharati, including contesting of elections.
- At the end of this period, leadership of various units of Samudai Bharati will be elected by Samudai Bharati members. This will include election of candidates through primaries. Prior to this election, the leadership of Samudai Bharati will be elected on an interim basis.
Current Activities at Samudai Bharati
We are currently in an evolving phase. We are in the process of forming more detailed organisation policies, and are coming up with the political structure of our organisation as well as with holistic approaches to address the primary current challenges identified above. At the same time, we are also making efforts to reach out to more and more potential members of Samudai Bharati. We acknowledge that we need more and more persons with various levels of expertise in different spheres of life (and not only those who would be interested in contesting elections) to establish and grow Samudai Bharati into a successful political organisation appropriate for our times. Therefore, we request you to contribute to this effort in whatever capacity you can, and to whatever extent you may desire. If you would like to join Samudai Bharati or if you would like more information on Samudai Bharati, please send us an email at info@samudai.org.
